How much will it cost to take my idea/invention through the process of patenting and licensing?
The costs associated for the various stages of patenting and licensing depend to a large degree on the idea/invention. In other words, is the product of a simple nature or complex? Is the product "new" or an improvement to an existing patented product? Do you have a prototype already made?
As you can see by just some of the questions above, there is no set amount that can be pulled out of thin air that can give an accurate cost figure. There are many variables involved that will affect what costs will be. However, a solid plan to make your product successful depends on good advice and not wasting your time and money on less than true representations of what any company "offers" to do for you.
Why do I need a drawing completed by a Licensed Engineer that conforms to USPTO requirements?
The initial provisional patent application can be a simple pencil rendering, which does not require a Licensed Engineer. In fact, you are probably more than capable to create it yourself. But, when it comes time for the formal patent application, you will need a Licensed Engineer to create the design.
Is it feasible to have ALL my patenting and licensing work done by one company?
Yes, it is possible to have one firm do all work on your idea/invention, from initial review right on through to marketing. However, experience has shown that these "all-in-one companies" come up woefully short on actually making money for the inventor. In interim you get constrained into paying exorbitant costs to these companies to do the work, and it usually ends up that the only one making money is the supposed "all-in-one company."
How long will my idea/invention take from conception to marketing and licensing?
Time is money—your money—and the sooner you can find out with reasonable certainty that your idea/invention does or does not have true merit, the sooner you can begin on the path to making your product profitable. Once the initial confirmation of your product is completed, we do not ever suggest that you deal exclusively with one firm to handle all aspects of getting your product to market. We suggest a multiple assortment of differing companies to expedite the various stages of your idea/invention, and all at the very best possible time frame with the highest degree of professionalism. The costs vary greatly, but regardless of your idea/invention, it is our primary goal to offer you solid advice and recommendations that will shorten the time of getting your product to market.
